English Grammar/Writing Skills
Instructor: Lori Hubert
Day/Time Offered: Tuesday/Thursday 12:00 – 1:30 pm
Course Description: The intent of this one-year, comprehensive class is two-fold: First, it will give each student a solid working knowledge of English grammar, punctuation and word usage. We will be using the curriculum entitled Analytical Grammar. This approach is logical, sequential and efficient – we will not waste your time. Review and reinforcement are built intoeach new concept. Second, we will de-mystify the process of writing both essays and research papers. By learning and practicing the mechanics in class, each student will be able to internalize the necessary steps for successful writing. In addition, we will analyze top-scoring SAT essays from previous years to help prepare for this exam.
Class time will be creative, engaging and active, and it will prepare the student for high school and college level work. There will be approximately 60+ minutes of outside homework per week. All tests are open-book. This class eliminates the need for boring, endless repetition; rather, it will equip the student with knowledge useful for a lifetime, instill confidence in both oral and written forms of communication, and allow the student to move forward successfully.
